FAQ

Describe your studio and class-types

Steel City Cycle has two studio spaces: a spin studio with stationary bikes for our rhythm-based spin classes, and a second fitness studio for our other classes on mats: strength (full-body lift and HIIT), sculpt (mat Pilates), and stretch (mobility and stretching). All four class-types are under one roof and one membership, which is a unique and exciting offering in Hamilton.

How do I book a class?

You can book into any class using our free app available on both iOS and Android, or by logging into our website. We strongly encourage you to download our app for all things purchasing, booking and managing your reservations – it’s the best way!

When can I book classes?

Our booking window opens every Sunday at 5pm EST.

Where are you located and where do I park?

We are located at 9 Robert Street, in downtown Hamilton, Ontario. On Robert Street and surrounding streets, there is metered and free 2-3 hour parking available. You can also find paid-parking municipal lots 70 and 36 less than a 2-minute walk away. If you’re taking the GO, we are a 5-minute walk from the West Harbour GO station.

What do I wear?

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely. It’s best to avoid anything too baggy that might interfere with your movements. We also recommend bringing a pair of slides, you’ll be asked to leave your outdoor shoes at the door to keep our studio clean and safe. We recommend grippy socks for our mat classes.

Do you provide cycling shoes and mats for class?

Your spin classes include a complimentary pair of SPD-compatible (two-screw) cycling shoes. Once you choose to make our spin classes a part of your regular routine, we strongly encourage you to invest in a pair for the best riding experience. Your mat classes include a complimentary mat.

Is there towel service?

You will find a complimentary sweat towel on your bike or mat when you arrive to your booked spot. One complimentary shower towel per person is available at reception.

I’m new—when should I arrive for my first class?

First-timers must arrive at least 15 minutes before class so we can get you properly set up, especially for spin where bike setup is key to your safety and comfort. If you arrive within 5 minutes of class as a first-timer, we may need to rebook you for another time.

Late arrivals

Our street-level doors close 2 minutes before class begins. Even for experienced members, arriving right at the last minute doesn’t leave enough time to set up safely with our equipment. Classes always start on time—we do this out of respect for the group and to keep everyone safe. We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early so you’re ready for class. Please note: this is a strict policy, and we stick to it.

Can I choose my own spot in class?

Yes, you can choose your spot in all classes, however, we do reserve the right to reassign your spot in spin classes to ensure everyone’s experience is the best it can be. Our riding philosophy at Steel City is team-based, meaning more experienced riders are placed in the front row to help anchor the room. If it’s your first time (or first few rides), you’ll be placed in the back row so you can get comfortable before moving forward. For reference, bikes 4–12 in the front row are considered “advanced” bikes.

What options do I have for memberships and credits?

There are two intro offers, an unlimited monthly membership, monthly limited memberships (4, 8, and 12 classes per month), drop-in credits and class packs with student discounts available. All memberships and class credits are valid for all class types, and many include guest passes. Check out our pricing page for details.

What if the class fills up before I can get in?

Join our waitlist! By doing so, you are committing to taking the class, should you get in. You are also agreeing to our cancellation policy.

How will I be notified that I got off the waitlist?

You will receive an email. Please be sure to also check your app or account online for updates. You will be automatically added to the class up to 1-hour before class time. Afterwards, you will have to manually accept the spot.

What happens if I don’t get off the waitlist?

You are automatically removed from the class with no penalty. If you used a credit to book, it will be returned to you for future use.

What does a ‘filmed’ class mean?

From time to time, we film classes for marketing and social media. If a class is being filmed, it will always be noted on the schedule in advance. For safety and to keep the space clear, no personal items should be left around the bikes or mats (this includes sweaters, bags, etc.). Please use the lockers to store your belongings before class.

What is your cancellation policy?

There is a 6-hour cancellation policy for all classes. If canceled less than 6-hours before class, memberships will be charged a $10 fee, and those who “no-show” will be charged a $20 fee. Credit holders will lose their credit in both cases.

What type of bikes do you use?

We use state-of-the-art Stages SC2 indoor cycling bikes, which are adjustable and suitable for all heights. There is a 350 lbs. weight limit. The pedals are SPD cleat (2-screw) compatible. Please note, our bikes do not have any screens, gadgets, or trackers. It’s not that kind of ride.

Do you have showers or changing rooms?

All of our showers, change rooms, and washrooms are private stalls designed for your comfort. Each one is stocked with essentials like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. You’ll also find a vanity counter with hair dryers and extra space to get ready before or after class.

Is there a water station or water bottles for purchase?

We have two water refill stations, so bring your reusable bottle. Bottled water is also available for purchase. Please note we are a cashless studio—any purchases will be charged directly to your account.

Are lockers available, and do they have locks?

We have plenty of lockers available. Feel free to bring your own lock, or borrow a complimentary lock from reception.

Do you have a student discount?

Yes, we offer 15% off our 5 and 10-class packs and the full unlimited membership for students. Send us a picture of your student ID to info@steelcitycycle.ca and we will tag your account. This way, you’ll automatically receive the discount when you check out online, through the app, or in person.
