FAQ
Describe your studio space
Steel City Cycle has two studios: a spin studio with stationary bikes for our SPIN classes, and a second fitness studio for our STRENGTH and STRETCH classes on mats. All three class-types are under one roof and one membership – a unique and exciting offering in Hamilton.
How do I book a class?
You can book into any class using our free app available on both iOS and Android, or by logging into our website. We highly encourage you to download our app for all things purchasing, booking and managing your reservations – it’s the best way!
When can I book classes?
Our booking window opens every Sunday at 5pm EST for the following week.
Where are you located and where do I park?
We are located at 9 Robert Street, in downtown Hamilton, Ontario. On Robert Street and surrounding streets, there is metered and free 2-3 hour parking available. You can also find paid-parking municipal lots 70 and 36 less than a 2-minute walk away. If you’re taking the GO, we are a 5-minute walk from the West Harbour GO station.
What do I wear?
Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely. It’s best to avoid anything too loose or baggy that might interfere with your movements. We also recommend bringing a pair of slides, as walking around the studio in your outdoor or cycling shoes is prohibited to keep our studio clean and safe. Our strength and stretch classes allow for socks or indoor gym shoes (your preference) – we recommend grippy socks!
Do you provide cycling shoes and/or mats for class?
If you don’t have your own cycling shoes, your SPIN classes include a complimentary pair – however, we highly encourage you to invest in a pair for the best riding experience once you choose to make our spin classes a part of your regular routine. We are partnered with a brand for discounted purchases – ask us about it at reception! Your STRENGTH and STRETCH classes include a complimentary mat and mat towel.
Is there towel service?
You will find a complimentary sweat towel on your bike and/or mat when you arrive to your booked spot. One complimentary shower towel per person is available at reception.
How early should I arrive to class?
We recommend that you arrive 10 minutes early to ensure you’re ready for class. As a first timer, please arrive at least 15 minutes before class. If you arrive within 5 minutes as a first timer, we reserve the right to book you into another class at a different time. For spin especially, getting properly set up on the bike is one of the most important parts of your Steel City experience – it’s crucial that we’re able to take the time to help you do so before class begins.
Can I choose my own spot in class?
Yes, you can choose your spot in all classes, however, we do reserve the right to reassign your spot to ensure everyone’s experience is the best it can be. This is especially true for newer clients to the studio.
What options do I have for booking a class?
We offer two discounted intro options to choose from, an unlimited monthly membership, monthly limited memberships (4, 8, and 12 classes per month), drop-in credits and class packs with student discounts available. All memberships and class credits are valid for all class types, and many include guest passes. Check out our pricing page for details.
What if the class fills up before I can get in?
Join our waitlist! By doing so, you are committing to taking the class, should you get in. You are also agreeing to our cancellation policy.
How will I be notified that I got off the waitlist?
You will receive an email. Please be sure to also check your app or account online for updates.
What happens if I don’t get off the waitlist?
You are automatically removed from the class with no penalty. If you used a credit to book, it will be returned to you for future use.
What does a ‘filmed’ class mean?
Every so often, we film video content of our classes for marketing and social media purposes. If a class is going to be filmed, it will be indicated on the schedule. Please note that participants will never be explicitly featured unless it’s agreed upon beforehand. The content being captured is mainly of the instructor and the room as a whole. No special dress code is in effect for filmed classes, dress as you normally would!
What is your cancellation policy?
There is a 6-hour cancellation policy for all classes. If canceled less than 6-hours before class, memberships will be charged a $10 fee, and credit holders will lose their credit. Memberships who “no-show” to a class will be charged a $20 fee.
Late arrivals
Once class has started, late arrivals will not be permitted. No exceptions.
Leaving class early
If, for any reason, you need to leave class early or during class, please note that you will not be allowed to re-enter the class.
What type of bikes do you use?
We use state-of-the-art Stages SC2 indoor cycling bikes, which are adjustable and suitable for all heights. There is a 350 lbs. weight limit. The pedals are SPD cleat (2-screw) compatible. Please note, our bikes do not have any screens, gadgets, or trackers as it does not suit our ride style.
Do you have showers and/or changing rooms?
All of our showers, change rooms and washrooms are individual stalls for your privacy and comfort. They have everything you need in terms of toiletries – shampoo, body wash, conditioner, you name it. We also have a vanity counter with hair dryers for your convenience.
Is there a water station or water bottles for purchase?
We have two water refill stations with fountains that provide cold and filtered water. There is also bottled water available for purchase. Please note that we are a cashless business – purchases will be charged to your account.
